Matthew R. Elyachar graduated from Boston University’s School of Management with a Bachelor of Science In Business Administration in May 1982. He started in the flooring business in November 1983 as General Manager and Vice President of “Big Bob’s Used Carpet Shops”. While GM of Big Bob’s, the company was awarded the prestigious “Small Business of the Year Award” by The Kansas City Chamber of Commerce in 1991.

In 1994, Matthew decided to expand his floor covering experiences and knowledge by leaving the retail carpet business and begin working in the commercial flooring industry. For the next eight years, Matthew worked for commercial flooring contractors like DuPont Flooring Solutions and Berkshire Hathaway Corporation. In that time, Matthew created and maintained a strong loyal group of commercial flooring accounts with public and private educational facility managers, hospital engineers, assisted living centers executive directors, the US Federal Government building managers, and corporate end-users.

In March 2002, Matthew decided to fulfill his American Dream by starting his own company, GEM Commercial Flooring Company. The business continues to flourish today by professionally servicing our customers with the highest level of quality flooring excellence.
